Working with the talented team at MLB Network I’m honored to have collaborated on the creation of this broadcast show package for, the regular-season afternoon program, Off Base. Starting from reference images and an initial concept I was brought on to handle all of the 3D design and animation for this show package. As the creative concept evolved, through developing assets for the show open, the 3D environments became more of a primary design element. With this change in direction I was also tasked with creating multiple virtual studio sets from the initial reference and the modular 3D environments that had been created for the show open.

Continuing to develop the creative direction of this broadcast package I was provided an incredibly well timed 2D motion graphics edit of the show open. I was responsible for creating the added layer of the 3D elements and animation then compositing the 2D animation within them. As the show open, the virtual sets, and some additional elements took shape I created a library of 3D environments and elements that I would use to complete the remainder of the show package and virtual sets.

The team at MLB Network was so great to work with on this project. They were always open to new ideas, supportive of my creative input, and allowed room for the project to really evolve creatively.

Testimonial

I hired Matt Armstrong as a freelance designer from January through September of 2022. During this time he was the lead 3D artist assigned to building a complete broadcast graphics package, including show opening as well as several virtual studio sets, for the new MLB Network show, Off Base. To say it was a pleasure working with Matt on this project would be a major understatement. Matt is an outstanding 3D artist and motion graphic designer with tremendous creative vision. In addition, he is a true professional. His communication is excellent and his process is extremely organized and efficient. He has great technical and problem solving skills and a wealth of knowledge and experience in the broadcast design industry. He was great about receiving and understanding direction and feedback and always produced the desired results. He grasped the creative concept right from the start and there was great collaboration during which he executed our ideas while always offering his own thoughts as well to continually evolve the project to a higher level. He has a very strong work ethic, and all aspects of the project were always on schedule and completed on time. He always stayed calm and collected through any unexpected bumps in the road and quickly developed solutions to any hurdles we faced. His passion for design was clear. He takes great pride in his work and was always willing to go above and beyond to deliver the best possible results. On top of all this, his friendly personality and positive attitude make him a true pleasure to work with.

I cannot recommend Matt more highly. He would be a true asset to any company and I will certainly be calling him again the next time we are in need of a talented broadcast design professional.
